5th Street Bridge: Two Full Overnight Closures this Weekend for Final Concrete Pour
January 20, 2022
UPDATED
THE LAST POUR: Weather dependent, two overnight closures are now planned this weekend for the 5th Street Bridge Project.
On Saturday night, January 22, the bridge is expected to close at midnight while crews apply touch-ups to the coating. The bridge will reopen by 6.a.m. Sunday January 23.
On Sunday evening, the bridge will close again at 7 p.m. for the second – and last – concrete pour, reopening by 6 a.m. Monday January 24.
To expedite the work, the bridge will be fully CLOSED to vehicle traffic both nights. The north sidewalk will remain open to pedestrians.
Once the concrete has cured for approximately seven days, fresh line paint will be applied, and work will shift to returning previous traffic patterns and reopen the bridge to two-way traffic.
During these overnight bridge closures, please use an alternate route:
- 17th Street Bridge
- Condensory Bridge – Anderton Avenue to Condensory Road
- North Connector – Piercy Road
Follow the City of Courtenay website and social media for updates. Please obey signage and all traffic control measures in place, and slow down to keep workers safe.
