UPDATE: FULL WEEKEND CLOSURE OF 5th STREET BRIDGE

Courtenay, BC – The 5th Street bridge will close to ALL vehicle traffic this weekend. The bridge will close Friday, February 4th at 7 p.m. and will reopen Sunday, February 6th at 8 p.m.

Please use an alternate route:

• 17th Street Bridge
• Condensory Bridge – Anderton Avenue to Condensory Road
• North Connector – Piercy Road

Closing the bridge for 48 hours will allow crews to complete the final concrete pour and limit vehicle vibration which is critical to ensuring the integrity of the concrete. The closure will also allow crews to complete other remaining deck work required to reopen the bridge to two-way traffic this month.

The north sidewalk will remain open to pedestrians.

The decision to the close the bridge over the weekend was not taken lightly and the City has informed the Downtown Courtenay Business Improvement Association, as well as Emergency Services and BC Transit. We thank you for your ongoing patience and look forward to reopening the bridge this month.
