Cycling Network Plan:
The Cycling Network Plan section of the transportation master plan was adopted earlier in 2019 to meet grant funding deadlines, resulting in $227,655 in provincial funding through the BikeBC program for the Fitzgerald Cycling Corridor Project and the Hobson Neighbourhood Connector. Revisions to the Cycling Network Plan were adopted in September 2019 based on public feedback received during the Connecting Courtenay: Transportation Master Plan public comment period to ensure alignment between the two documents.

Background
A transportation network includes all the ways that people, goods, and services move. Growing communities with greater diversity demand more transportation choice and people of all ages and abilities need to be able to reach important destinations, by whichever mode they choose. How people travel around their community, where they travel to and how long it takes, all contribute to how communities plan transportation infrastructure like roads, bike lanes, and sidewalks.
Based on public input, best practices, and technical assessment, Connecting Courtenay will identify existing issues, model future impacts, and identify medium and long-term improvement opportunities.
