The draft Strategic Cultural Plan for Courtenay is Ready for Feedback

October 3, 2024

Courtenay has a vibrant arts and culture scene and the community is invited to share feedback to help shape its future. The draft Strategic Cultural Plan for Courtenay was released recently and a public survey has launched to help finalize the plan. Developed through extensive and inclusive community consultation and with an equity lens, this plan is a roadmap for supporting arts and culture in Courtenay over the next 10 years.

The Plan identifies key gaps and opportunities in arts and culture services, infrastructure, and policies. It will help support investment in arts, culture and heritage as an economic, tourism, and social impact driver.

Survey participants will be asked questions about the vision, goals and objectives identified in the draft plan. Access the survey on the Strategic Cultural Plan webpage from Tuesday, October 8 until Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

Survey participants will have a chance to win a $100 gift card to either the CV Art Gallery, Courtenay & District Museum or the Sid Williams Theatre.

Paper copies of the survey will be available starting Tuesday, October 8 at:

  • City Hall, 830 Cliffe Avenue
  • Comox Valley Centre For the Arts, 580 Duncan Avenue
  • Courtenay & District Museum and Paleontology Centre, 207 4th Street
  • Sid Williams Theatre, 442 Cliffe Avenue
  • Courtenay Library 300, 6th Street

Courtenay Mayor Bob Wells said the survey is a key way for members of the public to shape the final plan. “This draft plan has been shaped by the community and offers a framework for how the City can continue to invest and support arts and culture in Courtenay,” said Wells. “Now we are asking the community for feedback on the draft plan, to make sure we got it right. We recognize the value of arts and culture in building community identity and resilience and this plan lays out the City’s vision, goals and priorities for the future of arts and culture in Courtenay.”

Foundational elements of the draft Strategic Cultural Plan include advancing reconciliation across all initiatives, building a team to drive cultural change, transforming and expanding cultural spaces, elevating investment in arts and culture, and leading cultural advocacy at the regional level.

Feedback from the survey will be used to inform the final version of the Strategic Cultural Plan for Courtenay which will be presented to Council this winter.
