Description:

The City of Courtenay invites applications for the positions of "Activity Leaders - Special Events” in the Recreation, Culture & Community Services Department.  This is a non-union, casual position that may include morning, afternoon, evening and weekend shifts. 

Activity Leaders - Special Events are responsible for the planning and facilitation of children/youth/family special events at Courtenay Recreation including Ghoul School/Haunted House, Children’s Halloween & Christmas Parties, Family Day and more and is a great option for those holiday or event planning enthusiasts.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Activity Leader 3
    • Diploma/degree or currently enrolled in post-secondary education or equivalent education and experience
    • Activity Leader 2
      • Completion of grade 11 or equivalent
      • High 5 Principles of Healthy Childhood Development (or willing to obtain)
      • Responsible Adult (or willing to obtain)
      • NCCP (or willing to obtain)
 
Occupational Certificates, Licenses, Association Memberships:
·         Current Criminal Records Clearance with vulnerable sector check
·         Current First Aid and CPR Level C (or willing to obtain)

Experience:

  • Experience planning events and/or coordinating larger group activities
  • Experience working within a team
  • Experience leading games, crafts, and other recreational or leisure activities
  • Experience with children ages 3-18
  • Experience instructing and/or assisting in the instruction of sports and active play in a recreation environment

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Have a strong commitment to professionalism
  • Possess passion and enthusiasm for participants and a willingness to learn
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Ability to participate in active recreation programming
  • Creativity and organization skills
  • Ability to lead, coach and mentor volunteers & other staff
  • Ability to delegate tasks and responsibility to team members and volunteers
  • Ability to build healthy relationships with participants and promote positive values and recreational benefits
