Student bursary program
Are you a graduating student in Courtenay? You may be eligible for a $1,000 bursary from the City of Courtenay.
The City recognizes the potential of young people in the Comox Valley and wants to support their education and future success.
Eligibility
To be eligible, you must:
- Be a grade 12 student graduating from one of these schools:
- Glacier View Secondary
- Georges P. Vanier Secondary
- Mark R. Isfeld Secondary
- Nala’atsi Alternate School
- Navigate (NIDES)
- Phil & Jennie Gaglardi Academy
- Be a City of Courtenay resident.
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- Show community involvement, volunteerism, successful academic standing, participation in extracurricular activities and positive work habits.
- Demonstrate financial need (priority will be given to students who do).
- Not have previously received a bursary from the City of Courtenay.
How to apply
Each participating school handles the application process and selects bursary recipients. To apply:
- Contact your school’s bursary coordinator for details and deadlines.
- Schools must submit the names of selected students to the City of Courtenay by May 15 each year.
How to claim your bursary
To receive your bursary funds:
- Provide proof of full-time enrollment at an accredited post-secondary institution (such as a college, technical school, university or specialty school).
- Submit your proof of enrollment within 15 months of graduation.
- If you need an extension due to extenuating circumstances, you must request one in writing before the 15-month deadline.
Additional details
- Each bursary is $1,000.
- The City publishes the names of bursary recipients and their schools on its website and in local newspapers.
- If a secondary school not listed above wants to participate in the program, they must submit a request to the City by September 30 for consideration in the next budget cycle.
