The City of Courtenay invites applications for the temporary exempt position of "Aquatic Supervisor”.
Oversees the operation of the outdoor pool and ensures the effective delivery of lifeguard services and aquatic programs; supervises pool staff; and assists in the marketing and promotion of programs and events.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalency
- Current Lifesaving Society Swim for Life Instructor Certification
- Current National Lifeguard (Pool Option)
- Current Standard First Aid, CPR C & AED
- Pool Operators certification
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Clearance
Complimentary:
- Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner
- Current Lifesaving Society Swim and Lifesaving Instructor/Examiner
Experience:
- Considerable (5-7 years) lifeguarding/instructing experience
- Sound experience (2-4 years) in the supervision of staff and pool facilities or similar
- Sound knowledge of aquatic programs for all age groups
- Sound knowledge of pool chemistry and pool mechanical systems
- Sound Knowledge of Health Act, WHMIS, and WCB regulations
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, time-management, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills
- Leadership skills and abilities to provide and promote positive values and recreational benefits
- Ability to plan, organize and lead, coach, and motivate staff in a team environment
- Ability to deal with public in a courteous and tactful manner
- Physical ability to perform rescues of pool patrons, apply chemicals, set-up deck equipment, etc.
Wage is $30.00 to $32.00 per hour (dependent on experience) plus an additional 12.4% in lieu. This position is available March 3 to August 31, 2025. Ability to work days, mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and split shifts.
