Description:

The City of Courtenay invites applications for the part-time position of "Early Childhood Educator” in the Recreation, Culture & Community Services Department. This is a union position and is subject to the terms and conditions outlined in the current Collective Agreement between the City and CUPE Local 556.

The Early Childhood Educator assists in the planning and facilitation of program activities in a licensed preschool setting; monitors the work of preschool support workers; provides input and suggestions on lesson plans and outdoor activities to the preschool and early years supervisor.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Grade 12 or equivalency;
  • Early Childhood Education Certificate from a recognized educational institution;
  • Current Child Safe or Safety Oriented First Aid-Emergency Level-Childcare and CPR-C;
  • Current Criminal Record Clearance;
  • Eligible for Early Childhood Educators of BC membership;
  • Some (1 year) experience in preschool teaching;
  • Sound knowledge of the Child Care Licensing Act;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Leadership skills and abilities to provide and promote positive values and early childhood development;
  • Ability to deal tactfully with sensitive issues concerning children;
  • Ability to work well as a member of a team;
  • Physical ability to frequently lift preschool children and equipment such as tables and chairs.

This is a regular, part-time, 10 months/year position available soon. The current hourly wage rate is $ 30.82 plus a $2 per hour (totaling $32.82 per hour) ECE Wage Enhancement for eligible employees, based on a minimum of 21-hour work week and up to 35. Hours of work are between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
