Description:

The City of Courtenay invites applications for a full-timeposition of "Fitness & Wellness Programs & Services Supervisor”. This is a union position subject to the terms and conditions in the collective agreement between the City and CUPE Local 556.

This position plays a crucial role in creating a positive and motivating environment for Fitness and Wellness Centre participants while also ensuring adherence to safety and regulatory guidelines.   The Fitness & Wellness Supervisor is responsible for the development, implementation, planning, evaluation, supervision and leadership of services pertaining to Wellness Centre activities, personal training, fitness classes, wellness and specialty programs.

The Supervisor assists in the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, evaluation and scheduling of Wellness Centre Attendants, Personal Trainers, and Group Fitness Activity Leaders, purchases program supplies & equipment, assists in the marketing and promotion of recreation services.  Maintains accurate wellness and group fitness related statistics and records.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • A degree or diploma in kinesiology, Human Performance, or Physical Education, or graduation from a similar college program from a recognized educational institution, or equivalent education and experience
  • Current Criminal Record Clearance
  • Current First Aid Emergency Level - Industry and CPR Level A & C
  • Current BCRPA Group Fitness Certification, Weight Training Certification, Personal Training Certification or equivalents
  • Current BCRPA Supervisor of Fitness Leaders for Weight Training, Group Fitness or equivalent is preferred
  • Class 5 Drivers License and willingness to obtain Class 4

Experience:

  • Five years experience in the delivery and planning of group fitness and wellness, preferably in a community setting
  • Some (1-2 years) supervisory experience
  • Experience with recreation software, programming and scheduling applications
  • Experience as a Group Fitness Activity Leader, Personal Trainer or related profession
  • Experience working with a diverse population and age groups

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Sound knowledge of Group Fitness programs, including yoga, bootcamps, strength training, spin and more 
  • Sound knowledge in Personal Training
  • Strong Knowledge of health and wellness principles and practices
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, time-management, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to meet various deadlines in a constantly changing service environment.
  • Sound knowledge of marketing strategies and techniques
  • Highly motivated and has the ability to work as a team and independently
  • Strong technical skill in computer software applications: MS Word, Outlook, Excel & recreation. software
  • Strong leadership skills and abilities to provide and promote positive values and recreational benefits
  • Physical ability to frequently lift heavy objects such as tables and equipment
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts, including days, afternoon, evenings, weekday and weekends as required for operational requirements

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRING

  • Obtain BC Class 4 Driver's License

The current (2024) hourly wage rate is $37.09.  This is a full-time position; start date to be determined.  Shifts may range from Monday to Sunday.
