Description:

The City of Courtenay invites applications for the position of "Operations Maintenance Technologist”. This is a full-time, union position subject to the terms and conditions in the collective agreement between the City and CUPE Local 556.

The Operations Maintenance Technologist provides technical support and coordinates technical work on developing, coordinating, implementing, and optimizing the Operational Services Department’s program(s). This position participates in the day-to-day planning of preventative maintenance programs and effectively implements industry best practices.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized educational institution, or a diploma in Geographic Information Systems, or related discipline, with at least 2 years of GIS experience in a GIS environment
  • Certified membership in the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia as an Applied Sciences Technologist or Certified Technician.
  • Valid British Columbia Class 5 Drivers License.
  • Sound (3 years) experience in a municipal operations environment, emphasizing contract coordination, planned preventative maintenance, and effective system(s) operations.
  • GIS technology background (Preferred).
  • Thorough knowledge of construction and maintenance practices.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and report-writing skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office, ArcGIS, and databases
  • Strong technical skills in the application and training of GIS-based systems.
  • Ability to work well as a member of a team and independently.
  • Ability to oversee the work of others.
  • Ability to interpret and apply City bylaws, policies, procedures, engineering design standards, and specifications.
  • Ability to read blueprints, construction drawings, and schematics.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRING
  • First Aid Emergency Level - Industry and CPR Level A Certification; Traffic Control training; WHMIS Certification; and other job-related safety training.
  • Certification from the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA)
  • Public Works Association membership
 

The current hourly wage rate is $40.33 based on a 35-hour week.
