Post-Secondary Summer Ambassador Program - 2024

The City of Courtenay is accepting applications from post-secondary students interested in summer employment with the City this year.

Ambassador Program

Overview

Ambassadors work in a team of two to provide education and outreach activities to residents in the City of Courtenay. Waste collection service changes and water conservation will be the primary focus. Utilizing neighbourhood patrols and hand delivery of information, the Ambassador program is intended to improve compliance through education.

Job Tasks

The Ambassadors will engage with residents by completing door to door visits in neighbourhoods and public events in the community.

Waste Collection – Inform residents about upcoming changes to the waste collection service, provide information on how to sort recycling for materials accepted at curbside versus depots, promote the recycling/waste app, and complete visual recycling and yard waste audits.

Water Conservation - Provide information to residents and businesses on watering restrictions, water conservation tips and current rebate programs, and conduct car/foot patrols to identify residents or businesses that are watering outside of the restrictions.

Reporting Structure

Reports to Utilities Engineering Technologist

Qualifications include

  • Grade 12, or equivalency
  • Fall 2024 full-time enrolment in a recognized post-secondary educational institution
  • Valid BC Drivers License
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work well as a member of a team and independently
  • Ability to understand and carry out job related instructions
  • Ability to carry out the physical demands of the job

This is a union position and subject to the terms and conditions outlined in the current collective agreement between the City and CUPE, Local 556. The current hourly wage rate is $19.80 per hour based on a 40-hour work week. An additional 12.4% of gross wages is paid in lieu of vacation. This position is available for 2 months (July – August 2024).
