The City of Courtenay invites applications for the position of Adapted Program Instructor in the Recreation, Culture and Community Services Department.

The Recreation Programming Division is responsible for the provision of programs and leisure opportunities for all age groups and abilities year-round.  The Division promotes healthy lifestyles and works with individuals and community groups in the provision of recreation services.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Recreation Activity Leader – General is responsible for the organization, supporting and facilitation of recreation programs.  Using creative skills in a leadership role to organize activities that may include a variety of physical activities, crafts, sports, STEM activities, cooking and games.  This may include child-minding and drop-in programs with adult participation. Reports to the Assistant Manager of Recreation Programming, Adapted Programs Coordinator and/or Youth Services Supervisor.  Hours of work will be part time, as required, as may include evening, days and weekends.

This is a non-union position.  Wages starting at $20.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications. An additional 4 % of gross wages is paid in lieu of vacation and benefits.

The Successful Candidate Will Have: 

  • Completion of Grade 10
  • Criminal Records Clearance
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR C
  • High Five Principles of Healthy Childhood Development (recommended)
  • Class 4 Drivers Licence (recommended)
  • Related experience with children/youth
  • Related program experience in recreation, sports, education, instruction, drama, crafts, special needs education and/or summer camp experience
  • Strong commitment to professionalism
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to actively participate in creation programming
