The Opportunity
Working as part of a cooperative team effort, and through the use of manual labour and powered equipment and tools, the Roads 1 incumbent will construct and/or install, inspect, maintain and repair roads, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, signs, street lighting, and other roads related infrastructure.
The Successful Candidate Will Have:
- Grade 12 or equivalency
- Public Works Maintenance I (BCIT – PUBW 1001)
- valid BC Class 3 Drivers License with Air Endorsement
- Current Membership with the Public Works Association of British Columbia
- Sound (3 years) recent hands on experience in roads construction, maintenance and repair, including asphalt surfaces, sidewalks, curb and gutters, and other related roads infrastructure components and equipment.
- Some (1-2 years) recent experience in the safe operation of heavy equipment (Front End Loader, Dump Truck, Snow & Ice Control, etc.)
- sound knowledge of proper public works construction and maintenance practices related to roads infrastructure
- good interpersonal and communication skills
- ability to work well as a member of a team and independently
- ability to assist with the reading of blue prints, construction drawings and schematics, and the use of survey equipment to grade shooting level
- ability to interpret and apply City bylaws, policies, procedures, engineering design standards and specifications
- ability to continuously use hand tools, lift heavy objects, work in awkward positions, stand and walk throughout the day; occasionally work in confined spaces and frequently work in inclement weather
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS AFTER HIRING
- First Aid Emergency Level - Industry and CPR Level A Certification; Traffic Control training; WHMIS Certification; Equipment Operator's training; Forklift training, and other job-related safety training
The current hourly wage rate is $35.45 based on a 40-hour work week. Hours of work are generally 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.
