Sewer Upgrade Project on Headquarters Road and Vanier Drive
July 10, 2014
The City of Courtenay is set to begin upgrades to the sanitary sewer pipes along Headquarters Road and Vanier Drive. The project will replace old infrastructure and improve sewer capacity in the area.
The project is scheduled to start on Monday, July 14, and has been timed to occur after the Vancouver Island MusicFest weekend. From 7:00 am to 7:00 pm weekdays, the project will result in traffic delays and periods of single-lane alternating traffic on Headquarters Road and Vanier Drive. Work will continue until the end of September.
The work zone is on Headquarters Road between Glacier Drive and Vanier Drive, and on Vanier Drive to the entrance of the Comox Valley Sports Centre.
The $1 million project is by far Courtenay’s largest sewer upgrade in Courtenay in 2014. Around 400 metres of old sewer pipe are being replaced. Approximately 1,200 metres of new sewer pipe are being installed to close a gap in the sewer network and improve performance.
Area residents have been advised to anticipate some interruptions to sewer service within the project area while individual properties are connected to the new pipe. Advance notice of service disruptions will be provided by the contractor.
