Bevan Road to Open November 23
November 20, 2015
"The newly reconstructed 2 km portion of Bevan Road leading from Cumberland to the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre will be opened to public at 8 a.m. on Monday, November 23, 2015.
This construction is part of a larger project to rebuild the transportation corridor to the waste management facility to a standard that will withstand the heavy traffic using the local road. The second phase of the project to reconstruct Cumberland Road from the Inland Island Highway to Bevan Road as well as the southern 300m of Bevan Road is expected to take place in 2016. The project is funded by the Comox Valley Regional District through the 2013 host community agreement.
The Bevan Road construction project features
- A new 7.2 meter paved road surface with 1.5 meter gravel shoulders
- Improved sight visibility along with improved drainage
Rather than provide alternating single-lane traffic with long delays during construction, it was decided to close the road to expedite the project. Traffic was detoured through Lake Trail Road to the north. The Village of Cumberland appreciates the inconvenience felt by those driving to the landfill and worked hard with the contractor to have the road re-opened ahead of schedule.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at Bevan Road and Wellington Road at 7:45 a.m. immediately before the road is opened."
