Duncan Avenue Construction: Upcoming Impacts
October 25, 2016
Construction on the Duncan Avenue watermain replacement project is nearing completion. The next phase is the connection of the new watermain to the existing system which will result in a series of evening and overnight detours and watermain shutdowns next week. The work schedule and intersections affected are as follows:
- Tuesday November 1 from 5:00 pm until approximately 4:00 am the next morning at the 6th Street and Simms Alley intersections
- Wednesday November 2 from 5:00 pm until approximately 4:00 am the next morning at the 4th Street intersection
- Thursday November 3 from 5:00 pm until approximately 6:00 am the next morning at the 5th Street intersection
The intersections will be closed to vehicle traffic and surrounding properties will experience a disruption to water service. Affected properties have been notified directly in advance by the project contractor. Traffic control personnel will be on site to help direct traffic.
The final step in the Duncan Avenue watermain project will be repaving, which is expected in mid-November. Other major watermain replacements in Courtenay this year include a recently completed project on Anderton Avenue, and a project nearing completion on Dingwall Road.
