City Dismantling Aqua Dam Next Week

February 8, 2018

Due to improved weather conditions and reduced risk of flooding, the Aqua Dam flood barricades on Comox Road and along the north side of Lewis Park will be removed next week between February 13 and 16.

Crews will start the deflating process later this week and begin dismantling the Aqua Dam as early as Tuesday. The Comox Road Aqua Dam, installed in late January between the Old Island Highway and the Highway 19A Bypass, will be removed first. The Lewis Park Aqua Dam, installed in November, will be dismantled once the Comox Road dam removal is complete.

During deflating and dismantling on Comox Road, there may be minor traffic impacts. Traffic control personnel will be on site to assist all commuters.

The Aqua Dam is a water-filled, portable, temporary dam that was set up to protect low-lying areas of Courtenay from potential flooding, including the Puntledge Business District.
