Ribbon Cutting for New Puntledge Park Playground
August 30, 2018
The new playground area at Puntledge Park has already been put to the test by countless children and families since it was completed in July. Now the City of Courtenay and the Rotary Club of Strathcona Sunrise have officially opened the playground at a ribbon cutting event on Thursday, August 30.
The playground features a slide pole, space walk, rock wall, climbers, overhead ladder, and a wave slide. A new set of swings includes a parent and tot combination swing. New benches and picnic tables were installed around the equipment, and native plants were added to the garden area adjacent to the playground.
“The Rotary Club of Strathcona Sunrise is pleased to have partnered with the City of Courtenay in the upgrading of Puntledge Park,” said Marcia Allardice, Community Services Program Director for the Rotary Club of Strathcona Sunrise. “Funds received by our club from B.C. Gaming and community support of our local events such as Have A Heart Dinner Theatre and Comox Valley Ribfest have made our donation possible.”
Courtenay Mayor Larry Jangula said the new playground is a welcome addition to the area. “Puntledge Park is one of our city’s most popular places for locals and visitors alike, and there are lots of kids in the surrounding neighbourhood, so we know this playground will be well-used,” noted Mayor Jangula. “We’re grateful to the Strathcona Sunrise Rotary Club for their contribution, which has helped make this park an even better destination for families.”
