Courtenay Council Establishes Strategic Priorities
March 8, 2019
Courtenay City Council has outlined their areas of focus for their four-year term, with 28 strategic priorities on a wide range of matters including housing, sustainability, public health and safety, asset management, arts and culture, relationship building, and community planning.
“I’m really pleased at how well our Council came together to collectively decide on these strategic priorities,” said Mayor Wells. “Each of these priorities is action-oriented. This will be a guiding document for how we wish to use our time on Council to shape and support our community.”
The Courtenay Strategic Priorities 2019 to 2022 are divided into six themes related to organizational and governance excellence, planning and investing in Courtenay’s natural and built environment, economic development, multi-modal transportation, housing diversity and reasoned land use planning, and investing in key relationships.
The priorities were established at planning sessions in late 2018 and early 2019 with Council and senior staff. The document outlines whether priorities fall within Council’s area of control – within their jurisdictional authority to act – or whether they are an area where Council has influence, or a matter of concern but outside Council’s authority.
