Provide Input on Courtenay’s Draft Transportation Master Plan
July 8, 2019
The City of Courtenay is inviting the public to provide feedback on a transportation planning document that will guide future decision-making on infrastructure improvements for all modes of transportation for years to come.
The draft Connecting Courtenay: Transportation Master Plan is available for review and feedback until Thursday, August 8, 2019.
Feedback from Council and the public will be incorporated into the Connecting Courtenay: Transportation Master Plan as we further refine the plan prior to presenting it to Courtenay City Council for adoption later this year. Updates to the Cycling Network Plan adopted in February 2019 will also be considered and presented to Council as part of the overall Transportation Master Plan.
Ryan O’Grady, the City’s Director of Engineering Services, said the public has been a major contributor to the plan. “We’ve had a significant amount of community involvement in the development of this plan, and this feedback has been essential in refining this plan to the point we’re at today. As we near the plan’s completion, we’re asking the community to review the recommendations one more time and share their feedback with the project team.”
The development of the draft Connecting Courtenay: Transportation Master Plan has been a multi-year effort, including comprehensive data collection and technical analysis, public and stakeholder consultation, forecasting and assessment of future conditions, and development of medium- and long-term plans for walking, cycling, transit, and vehicle connectivity. The priorities identified in Connecting Courtenay will help ensure that future transportation-related services and initiatives are delivered in a socially, economically, and environmentally responsible manner while balancing the needs of the community now and into the future.
The draft plan can be reviewed online at www.courtenay.ca/connectingcourtenay . A paper copy will be available at City Hall.
To provide feedback on the plan, email comments to connectingcourtenay@courtenay.ca by August 8, 2019.
