Duncan Avenue Temporary Road Closures for Drainage Improvements
December 2, 2021
City of Courtenay Public Works Services will be performing upgrades to storm drain infrastructure on Duncan Avenue in Downtown Courtenay next week to improve drainage in the area during heavy rainfall events.
The project's scope includes the renewal of existing stormwater infrastructure including the addition of several new catch basins, as well as minor improvements to connecting piped systems. These works are aimed at improving stormwater capacity and building resilience within the current infrastructure.
Work will begin on Monday December 6 and is expected to continue for up to four days. During construction hours from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m, Duncan Avenue between 4th and 5th Streets and part of the adjacent laneways will be closed to vehicles. Every effort will be made to expedite the work and reopen the area to vehicle traffic as soon as it is safe and practical to do so.
Traffic control personnel will be on site during construction hours to assist all commuters, including drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. During construction, vehicles will be detoured via posted side streets.
Please obey all posted signage and detours for your safety.
The City thanks area businesses, patrons, and commuters for their understanding during these necessary upgrades. For more information, contact City of Courtenay Public Works Services at 250-338-1525 or email publicworks@courtenay.ca
