December 11, 2024

If you haven't already:

  • Claimed a home owner grant for 2024
  • Claimed a retroactive home owner grant for 2023
  • Paid your 2024 property taxes
  • Paid user fees for your 2024 property tax deferment
  • Submitted an application to defer 2024 property taxes

Outstanding Property Tax Deadline

The deadline to pay your property taxes, or pay user fees related to Property Tax Deferment, is Friday, December 31, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. After that date, interest* begins to accrue. The deadline to defer your property taxes through the Province of B.C. is midnight on December 31.

*The interest rate is legislated by the Province of British Columbia and is 3.00% above the prime lending rate as of the 15th of the month preceding the effective dates. The prescribed rate for 2024 Q4 was 9.45%, but has yet to be set for 2025 Q1.

A special note regarding the current Canada Post strike: If you plan to mail a cheque, a date of postmark is not payment date, any payments sent by cheque and not received by the City by December 31, 2024 will be considered late, with interest applying to outstanding balances.

Home Owner Grant Deadline

You may claim your 2024 home owner grant online until midnight on December 31. If you have not yet claimed a home owner grant for 2023, you may do so retroactively online until midnight on December 31. Per Provincial Legislation, unclaimed home owner grants are considered unpaid taxes and are subject to interest after December 31, 2024.
