Courtenay Council Meeting Highlights for May 15

This update covers highlights from the May 15, 2024 Special Council meeting to discuss prioritization of Community Policing Services for 2024 and 2025.

Council respectfully acknowledged that the lands on which this meeting was conducted are the Unceded traditional territory of the K’ómoks First Nation.

RCMP Priorities Discussion

Council met with Acting Detachment Commander Corey Kilborn and Staff Sergeant Beauregard of the RCMP. The purpose of the meeting was to identify the top five areas of concern regarding Policing Services in the City of Courtenay. The RCMP will look to harmonize common concerns and identify internal action plans to support each goal.

Council identified the following top five areas of concern (in no particular order):
Violent crime
Property crime
Road safety
Police community relations
Support reconciliation with enhanced service delivery to Indigenous communities and Kómoks First Nation.
