New kenneling location for stray animals

The Comox Valley local governments have partnered to secure a new kenneling for stray animals. Starting January 1, 2025, stray animals picked up under local government bylaws are housed at the Unleashed Dog Boutique, located at 1970 Anderton Road.

This change follows the BC SPCA’s decision to focus on supporting animals displaced by emergency situations across the province. The SPCA will no longer:

  • Accept stray animals listed in local bylaws (these animals must be brought to the Unleashed Dog Boutique)
  • Sell dog licenses or charge impound fees
  • Hold dangerous dogs awaiting court dates

The SPCA will continue to accept resident animal surrenders and remains involved in cruelty investigations, emergency boarding and adoptions.

Overview of animal control

  • A maximum of three dogs over six months old are permitted per parcel of land
