Nuisance Properties
In some cases, repeated undesirable behaviours from some properties demonstrate a pattern of nuisance behaviour, resulting in elevated staff time and costs. These chronic problem properties can significantly affect the quality of life in neighbourhoods.
In 2019, the City of Courtenay adopted a Nuisance Abatement and Recovery Bylaw. This bylaw allows for the recovery of costs through the property tax system.
Use of the Nuisance Abatement and Recovery Bylaw will be at the City's discretion, when typical bylaw enforcement efforts fail to achieve compliance.
