The City of Courtenay invites applications for the position of "Activity Leader 3” in the Recreation, Culture & Community Services Department. This is a non-union, casual position that may include morning, afternoon, evening and weekend shifts.
The Activity Leader 3 may work with a team or independently, and is responsible for assisting in the planning, facilitation, and implementation of recreation programs to a variety of age groups. Recreation Programming categories include: sports, arts, music, cooking, dance and more. Activity Leader 3 also assists with the training, supervision and mentorship of volunteers and Activity Leader 1 and 2 position. Activity Leader 3 will ensure the safety and confidentiality of all participants, take attendance, and perform program set up and take down.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma;
- Enrolled in or completed post-secondary education in outdoor education, social services, recreation, educational assistant, or relevant/similar field;
- Criminal Records Check;
- High Five Principles of Healthy Childhood Development (recommended);
- Current Criminal Record Clearance;
- Level 1 First Aid or willing to obtain;
- Food Safe or willing to obtain;
- Class 4 drivers license or willing to obtain;
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a recreation, sports, educational or child care setting;
- Experience working with people of variety of ages and abilities;
- As this position may work independently, they must be a minimum of 16 years of age to meet Employment Standards;
- Have a strong commitment to providing recreational programming;
- Knowledge of basic program planning;
- Ability to facilitate programs while maintaining participant safety;
- Ability to assist with the coaching and mentoring of volunteers and staff;
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs;
- Ability to actively participate in recreation programming;
- Willing to be available for daytime hours and work a flexible schedule Monday – Sunday.
The current hourly wage rate is between $24.00 and $30.00, based on experience and qualifications. Hours of work will vary from 0-35 hours a week, and may include evenings, weekdays, and weekends.
