About the fire hall

The Courtenay Fire Department serves around 38,000 people across 181 square kilometres, including the City of Courtenay and nearby Fire Protection District.

All services are provided from one fire hall, located at 650 Cumberland Road.

Our team includes eight full-time staff with specialized roles and 55 trained volunteers who respond to both emergency and non-emergency calls.

Emergency services

We provide the following emergency response services:

  • fire suppression
  • medical response (as a last resort when ambulance services are delayed or require assistance)
  • vehicle extrication
  • rope rescue
  • confined space rescue

Public education

We help educate the public about fire safety through:

  • Fire Safety House program
  • free smoke alarm installations
  • fire hall tours
  • fire extinguisher training
  • fire drills
  • Youth Fire Setter Intervention program
  • FireSmart Home Ignition Zone assessments
  • community events

Fire prevention

Our fire prevention services include:

  • annual inspections of assembly buildings, commercial properties and multi-family housing
  • fire investigations
