Courtenay Fire Department

The Courtenay Fire Department has been serving the community since 1915. We provide fire prevention, fire suppression and rescue services to Courtenay and surrounding contracted areas.

Our team includes eight full-time firefighters and 55 trained volunteers. We respond to both emergency and non-emergency calls.

In an emergency

Call 911 if you need help from the fire department.

Your call will first be answered by E-Comm 911 operators at a dispatch centre in Vancouver. If you need fire services, they will transfer your call to the fire dispatch centre in Campbell River.

The 911 system can usually detect:

  • the phone number you're calling from
  • the address linked to that phone number
  • the name of the registered phone owner

Even if you’re unable to speak during the call, help will still be sent. This can happen if someone is panicked, disoriented or in danger and cannot speak. The enhanced 911 system helps responders locate you automatically.

The call-taker will ask for:

  • your name
  • your address
  • your phone number
  • the type of emergency

Answer as clearly as you can so the right help can be sent quickly.
