Automated Collection Carts Delivered, Marking the Countdown to the January 2024 Launch
December 1, 2023
The City of Courtenay and the Town of Comox have nearly completed the delivery of automated curbside collection carts, bringing the municipalities one step closer to the program's official launch on January 2, 2024. Each property transitioning should have received three carts for garbage, recycling, and organics.
While every effort has been made to deliver carts to all properties, the municipalities acknowledge that some may have been inadvertently missed. Residents who have not received their carts in Comox by December 1 and in the City of Courtenay by December 15 are encouraged to contact Public Works in their respective communities to address any oversights.
Transition Timeline:
Last Collection Pick-up (Current System): December 29, 2023
*The blue zone in Comox will have an additional recycling pick-up on Saturday, December 30
New Automated Collection Cart Use Begins: January 2, 2024
Residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new system by reading the information guide included with the delivered carts, information guides can also be found online. Additionally, the municipalities have partnered on a brief introduction video highlighting proper cart usage and placement, available here.
As part of the transition, residents are encouraged to responsibly repurpose or donate their old waste containers. The municipalities will facilitate this process through drop-off opportunities or special scheduled collections in January 2024.
