Last Updated: June 21, 2024
Hazelwood Construction Services Inc., working on behalf of the City of Courtenay, will be replacing the existing lift station located inside a concrete block building at 1201 – 1st Street, adjacent to the entrance to Puntledge Park, and upgrading the sanitary sewer system. These upgrades are essential to improve the overall service of the local sewer system, mitigate operational risk, and reduce ongoing maintenance costs.
Traffic Notices/Road Closures:
1st Street is currently closed to traffic between Menzies and Urquhart Avenues during weekday work hours. The closures began in early June and a confirmed end date is not yet available. Watch here for updates.
- Detours will be marked and traffic personnel will help direct traffic
- Closures will be between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Road will be open on weekends.
- Access to homes and Puntledge Park will be maintained
The project includes:
- Installation of a new lift station, including a 7.0m deep wet well, pumps, an above-ground valve chamber, a power and controls kiosk, and site fencing to enclose the new lift station.
- Installation of approximately 450m length of gravity sanitary sewer main on 1st Street.
- Installation of approximately 250m length of sanitary sewer force main between 1st Street and Pidcock Avenue through an existing City owned Right of Way.
