Downtown revitalization
The City of Courtenay has a dynamic vision for the future of downtown Courtenay. This vision, shaped through extensive community consultation, is detailed in the Downtown Courtenay Playbook: A Partnership Action Plan [PDF - 9.6 MB], adopted by Courtenay City Council on September 6, 2016.
Our vision for downtown Courtenay
Downtown Courtenay is the heart of the Comox Valley — a commercial, cultural, social and culinary hub nestled between stunning natural landmarks like the Comox Glacier and the Courtenay River. The vision is to foster a vibrant, diverse downtown that welcomes residents and visitors alike, with spaces for living, working, gathering and celebrating.
Courtenay Downtown Vitalization Local Area Plan (DVLAP)
The City of Courtenay launched the Downtown Vitalization Local Area Plan (DVLAP), a collaborative effort focused on shaping the future of downtown and Harmston Park. This plan will guide growth, partnerships, innovation and connectivity in these areas.
The DVLAP aims to:
- Encourage residential and commercial growth that complements our community.
- Activate civic spaces with engaging programming and activities.
- Strengthen connections throughout downtown, making it more accessible for everyone.
This comprehensive planning approach ensures downtown remains a vibrant hub for current and future residents, businesses and organizations.
The City of Courtenay gratefully acknowledges the support of the Real Estate Foundation of British Columbia for the Downtown Revitalization Project.
