Environmental Emergencies
If you spot an environmental concern or emergency, it is important to notify the appropriate responders as quickly as possible.
In the Province of B.C., reporting spills and environmental emergencies falls under the B.C. Environmental Management Act. "A person in possession, charge or control of a substance is required by law to report the spill (or pending spill)."
For spills and/or environmental emergencies in Courtenay, please notify the City's Operational Services at 250-338-1525 during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). For emergencies outside these hours, including weekends and holidays, please call the after-hours emergency line at 250-334-2947.
