Air Quality
The City of Courtenay has good air quality most of the time, except during winter nights, and in the summer during periods of wildfire smoke. During these times, our local air quality does not meet the provincial Air Quality Objectives. These times of poor air quality are a health risk for everyone.
During winter nights, poor air quality is caused by wood burning appliances. By finding ways to keep homes warm without wood burning, our community will enjoy good air quality more often.
While air quality is improving on average – there is more we can do to reduce the impact of fine particular matter and other pollutants on our health and the health of our neighbours.
If your home is equipped with a wood burning appliance you can help improve our air. Read through our resources to learn more.
